Wix is where the small shop starts. Its adopters are overwhelmingly contract manufacturers and the local metal trades. Machine shops, sheet-metal fabricators, and tool-and-die makers that mainly need a website to be found and called. Most of the sites run well under twenty pages, many under ten, with no catalog and no real content behind them. They are digital brochures in the truest sense, with a few pages describing what the shop does, setup and maintained in-house.

That's the appeal and the limit in one. Wix is the cheapest, simplest way onto the web, which is exactly why it's the first move – it just doesn't scale. When a manufacturer's needs surpass a handful of pages, it tends to move to an actual CMS rather than build up on Wix. For a small job shop that just needs to be online, though, the first move is the only one it needs.
