Is Joomla right for manufacturers?

Joomla is a veteran open-source CMS well past its prime. It survives as an aging, self-hosted install base that few maintain and nobody new adopts, and its sites are among the least-tended of any real CMS in our index.

Who Chooses It

Joomla powers 244 of the 25,000+ industrial websites we track, ranking 9th of 60 platforms, with a typical site size of around 90 pages.

The manufacturers running Joomla are, for the most part, established mid-sized companies. OEM lead the mix, alongside an unusually strong showing of parts and components suppliers – together, more than half of the classified sites. By industry they cluster in fabricated metal, machinery, and electronics, the traditional core of industrial manufacturing. These are working businesses with real product lines and catalogs behind their sites.

A large share of Joomla sites in our index don't publish an XML sitemap. For those sites we can confirm they're active and read their industry profile, but not their size or structure. So any page-count or content metrics reflect only the subset that publishes a sitemap, not every Joomla site. And where a measure depends on that crawl, we've left it out rather than generalize from a partial sample.
